30+ years as a graphic designer can leave a gal yearning to come out from behind the computer and get her hands dirty. So, in 2018 I opened a small vintage decor business which put me on the move searching for quality treasures of the past, as well as exploring up-cycling and repurposing. The collections of “smalls” I’ve gathered – vintage buttons, antique glass, vintage ceramics and more – became the inspiration for this new work.

 

Created through several stages of planning and hand work, my mixed-media mosaics are a welcomed shift away from technology, toward a new appreciation for the imperfect and tactile. These one-of-a-kind assemblages are a unique intersection of my design thinking and vintage item infatuation, a space where I enjoy exploring color, form and texture, often capturing nostalgic messages and a bit of quirk.
